About DDU-GKY

The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) announced the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) on Antyodaya Diwas – 25th September 2014. DDU-GKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth.

DDU-GKY is uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families. As a part of the Skill India campaign, it plays an instrumental role in supporting the social and economic programs of the government like the Make In India, Digital India, Smart Cities and Start-Up India, Stand-Up India campaigns. Over 180 million or 69% of the country’s youth population between the ages of 18 and 34 years, live in its rural areas. Of these, the bottom of the pyramid youth from poor families with no or marginal employment number about 55 million.

Kitchen helper short term programme (THC/Q3303) is designed to train students to become professional in hotel industry with an emphasis on culinary and service skills, managerial training and hands-on experience. Cooking and Service has become an art, food preparation as well service is more specialized, and the industry is demanding; therefore, candidates must be prepared to work long hours, be in good health and be physically fit. Students study food preparation, basic of kitchen stewarding training knowledge, Soft skill and English, hospitality techniques, computer applications, sanitation and safety procedures, and menu planning.

Some hands-on classes are held during the evenings. and to get real time practical exposure while cooking full course meal for guests. Students receive many opportunities to be involved in real-world experiences at both the DDU-GKY Centre and at various hotels on the time of OJT and event facilities to further refine and develop their knowledge and skills. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Hotels ODC for events, competitions and activities that the culinary programs are involved in throughout the community.

The knowledge and skills gained in this program are relevant for a variety of food-related industries and sectors. Successfully certified candidates may find employment in food preparation and service establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, cafeterias, senior care facilities or catering companies.

This program empowers students with knowledge, including techniques, skills, and concepts of different cuisines Indian, Chinese and Continental.

The program exposes students to entrepreneurship, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Certified candidates can carve a career in the fields of food preparation and service establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, cafeterias, senior care facilities or catering companies.

Program Name – Kitchen Helper
Duration – 3 Months

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidate must have passed 10 & 10+2 (Class X & XII) in any stream.
  • Candidates must have BPL card.  Relaxation of 5% in aggregate percentage of marks will be given to the candidates who belong to SC/ST & OBC category.
  • Candidate must belong from district Almora, Bageshwer, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun and Uttarkashi rural areas.

Achievements:

  • Successfully course completed candidates placed in Hotel Maharaja Plazo, Hotel Ramada, Barbeque Nation, Absolute Barbeque, Air toast Restaurant, The Fork restaurant.
  • Participated in Job Fair.
  • Conducted campus interview.
  • Conducted Guest lecture through industry experts.
